Why do you want to serve on the MPWMD board, and what are your qualifications?

This blog is a re-post of the questions asked by Monterey Now in their endorsement questionnaire.

I seek to serve on the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District Board because sustainable water management is critical for our community's long-term health and prosperity. My background in land stewardship and policy equips me to balance the needs of residents, businesses, and ecosystems effectively. I am committed to finding innovative solutions that ensure a reliable water supply while protecting our region's natural resources.

My qualifications include:

  • Training as a facilitator, attorney, and land steward

  • Experience in federal and state policy, with a focus on public lands and land use

  • Participation in negotiations between public agencies and private stakeholders

  • Track record of developing research and recommendations to support high-stakes political decision-making

  • Advisory roles for startup companies and community-based organizations

  • Facilitation of stakeholder engagement for multiple nonprofits

I can be counted on to:

  • Analyze issues critically and comprehensively

  • Pose incisive questions about the monetary, human, and environmental costs of proposed actions

  • Develop ideas in writing to promote transparency and incorporate stakeholder input

My vision encompasses the big picture for Monterey County. I aim to be a voice for responsible stewardship and publicly-owned utility management. By collaborating with stakeholders, I will work to develop equitable policies that serve all members of our diverse community. My ultimate goal is to help create a sustainable water future for the Monterey Peninsula.
